for winning the phpFox Raffle for an Apple iPod Touch each!
I added more info in our forum so feel free to check it out here.
As some of you may have noticed the phpFoX Forums was offline during the early morning (GMT), the reason for this was that we were re-organizing the forums and added a new Forum Section called:
phpFoX Modifications, Themes & Language Packages
This forum is meant to gather all mods, themes, language packages for each version. We have created Sub Forums for each version in the different forums. We hope by organizing the mods, themes and language packages it will be easier for you to browse through the sections and find what you are looking for.
We have moved the threads from “mods, themes and language packages” sections to the new forums.
Any new threads that will be submitted to the following forums will have to be approved by us first:
* phpFoX Paid Modifications
* phpFoX Free Modifications
* phpFoX Paid Themes
* phpFoX Free Themes
* phpFoX Language Packages
Please note that we will not test the actual modification/themes/language package, we will merely make sure that it is not a duplicate and that the thread is in the correct section.
Since threads were not approved earlier there are still certain threads that are located in forums they do not belong to. I will be moving these threads throughout the day, however wanted to get the forums back online asap. You’re also welcome to report any thread/post you believe is misplaced and we’ll see to it that it gets moved to the proper place.
We wanted to start with some raffles and/or contests as an appreciation to our community. These raffles and/or contests are a small gesture of thanks to all clients that participate in our community. To start things off we want to give away 3 Apple iPod Touch(8GB).
The raffle will end on 29th September, 2008. In order to be eligible for the raffle you simply need to be a valid license holder and answer our poll with “Yes, I want a free Apple iPod Touch!” at the discussion thread.
We will engrave the Apple iPod Touch with your username/name upon your request. Free shipping is included to any location.
We want to thank everyone for their contribution in our community!
Notice: This is a raffle and the 3 people signing up for “Yes, I want a free Apple iPod Touch!” will be chosen randomly, not manually picked.
phpFox 2 is well under way. We have been focusing most of our time now on this version in hopes to get it ready before the new year. We currently estimate this version will be ready by the first quarter of 2009.
This version is a complete rewrite of the current product we have released. It will also include a new database schema which will allow us to improve in some of the areas we wanted to with our current engine but were unable to because of the limitations brought forward by the database structure. Since the product is being rewritten this has pushed back the release of version 2.0, however we feel this is a vital step for the product and its future.
We will be working closely with 3rd party developers that work on the releasing the top mods found in our community to ensure we are going in the right direction when developing an engine that will be “plug-in” friendly.
At this time I am still unable to release a list of features/changes that will be part of version 2 as we want to hold this information until the first beta release.
If you would like to see a change in the product or a new feature added please feel free to add it to our Feature Request section. We look over all requests and once the beta release is out we will publicly approve requests that have been developed and approved internally.
Version 1.6.x will be the final release for v1.x. We still have developers focusing solely on this version to fix any unforeseen issues that may arise over the next months until version 2.x is fully completed and v1.6.x has passed its end-of-life date.
Upgrading to version 2.x will be using an upgrade script we provide, similar to that of the one we provide with our current version. Since we will be creating a new database table structure all your users information will be automatically imported into the new tables via the upgrade script. The file structure will be similar to that of v1.5.+, so there should not be any extra steps to complete in that part of the upgrade.
phpFox 2 will require PHP 5. As of today we still have the same requirements for MySQL which is 4.1 however this might change over the next few months. Smarty will not be our main template engine and we will instead use our own template engine which supports the common Smarty tags which is what we currently use with v1.5+. So for those developing mods this won’t be much of a change when migrating from v1.x to v.2.
We will continue to release more information as we can regarding the new version over the next few months to keep everyone up-to-date.
If you have the U.S. State/ZIP feature enabled you may notice that the HTML elements are disabled by default if the user does not select “United States” from the location drop down. The logic behind this is so users don’t select the country Sweden and then allow them to select a U.S. state.
I have had requests to disable this feature to allow your users to make the choice and not disable them from selecting a certain element.

Thanks to Craigster.
Here is quick little mod I whipped up to add a “Added By: UserName” under a Gallery image when its viewed in public areas such as the “RECENT IMAGES” found in the index page, gallery section (including featured images) and when viewing a groups index page.
